Programme Highlights
Fat Kee Stevedores Ltd. (FKS) was founded in 1949. It is a long established logistics operator in Hong Kong providing services in logistics centre operation, bonded warehousing, e-commerce logistics, container trucking, local distribution, project cargo movement and waste logistics management. The visit includes two sites, one is the public bonded warehouse in MTL Kwai Chung for storage of hard liquor, commercial wine, cigarettes and cigars and another is M.V. North Lantau which FKS provides crewing for the daily operation of this vessel of Environmental Protection Department via their head contractor, shuttling waste containers between North Lantau Transfer Station and the landfill. Participants could familiarize with the operation of the bonded warehouse and the waste logistics by sea.

Technical Visit to FKS Bonded Warehouse and M.V. North Lantau

The Logistics and Transportation Division (LTD) organized a technical visit to Fat Kee Stevedores Ltd (FKS) bonded warehouse in Modern Terminals Ltd and on board of M.V. North Lantau in North Lantau Transfer Station in the afternoon of 12 Oct. The visit was divided into two sessions and was led by Mr Rity Lo (Operation Manager of the bonded hub), Mr Kim Lo (Assistant Manager of Shipping Operations) and Mr Benny Chan (Operation Manager of North Lantau Transfer Station). This was indeed a valuable chance for our participants to understand the operations of bonded hub and wastes logistics in Refuse Transfer Station.
During the first part of the visit, Mr Rity Lo and Mr Kim Lo introduced the business scope of FKS and the operation in a bonded warehouse. Then Mr Rity Lo guided the participants to a tour in the bonded hub for storage of cigarettes and wine products. He also explained the detailed operations of both duty paid products.
As regards the second part of the visit, the participants went to North Lantau Transfer Station and they were divided into two teams. One team was led by Mr Kim Lo on board of the vessel to gain an in-depth understanding of its operation and to witness how the collected waste was handled and delivered by marine transfer to the West New Territories Landfill for final disposal. The vessel has a capacity of carrying 80 numbers of 6m long ISO containers and each container can take about 15 tonnes of wastes. Another team was briefed by Mr Benny Chan on the operations of the incoming wastes in North Lantau Transfer Station. This station handled municipal solid wastes, covering service districts such as Tung Chung, Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok, Discovery Bay and Disneyland Resort. The participants all enjoyed the vessel tour.
The visit ended with a closing ceremony in which representatives from the LTD expressed their gratitude with a souvenir presented to Mr Kim Lo as a token of appreciation.
