A Technical Visit to Virtual Reality Centre at HSUHK & Automated parcel sorting and centralized X-ray screening system at DHL Express

Programme Highlights

Virtual Reality Centre in The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong has launched in 2015 with facilities including Cave Automated Virtual Environment (CAVE) and various VR facilities. It is dedicated in teaching, learning and research on VR, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality in the discipline of transportation, logistics, arts and culture, business analytics and financial management.

DHL Express has renovated and expanded its current Hong Kong Service Centre in Tsing Yi. Upon fully running into services, it will be the largest service centre by volume handed in the whole DHL Express network. It has fully automated express parcel sorting and processing systems and facilities in the centre. X-ray screening is also centralized in the control room of the centre

 

Objectives

The visit aims to provide latest technology development of logistics and transport in Hong Kong. How virtual reality is developed in teaching and learning on logistics and supply chain and how automated express parcel sorting system and X-ray screening is developed in the industry.

The technical visit is free of charge and prior registration is required.  The number of participants is limited to 20 and applications. Shuttle bus will be provided from the university to DHL Express Hong Kong Service Centre and back to Kowloon Tong MTR station. Applications will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis and priority will be given to members of the LTE Division. Technical visit to Virtual Reality Centre at HSUHK &

A technical visit to the Virtual Reality (VR) Centre of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) and Automated parcel sorting and new centralized X-ray screening system of DHL Express was organised by HKIE Logistics and Transportation Division. It was held at 1:30pm to 4:30pm on 6 June 2019 (Thursday) in the university at Shatin and in DHL Express’s Hong Kong Service Centre at Tsing Yi. The visit aimed to facilitate members to understand more about the latest technology of logistics and transport in the academia and industry.

 

VR Centre in HSUHK was launched in 2015 with facilities including Cave Automated Virtual Environment (CAVE) and various VR facilities. It is dedicated in teaching, learning and research on VR, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality in the discipline of transportation, logistics, arts and culture, business analytics and financial management. DHL Express has renovated and expanded its current Hong Kong Service Centre in Tsing Yi. Upon fully running into services, it will be the largest service centre by volume handed in the whole DHL Express network. The centre has equipped with fully automated express parcel sorting and processing systems as well as a new centralized X-ray screening system.

 

A total of 20 people participated in the visit. The participants experienced various VR scenes in the Virtual Reality Centre after a briefing from the centre representative. After that, the participants visited the new service centre of DHL Express. Mr Chee Choong Ng, Vice President, Operations, DHL Express and his colleagues Mr. Boris Chui and Mr. Edvan Lee shared the latest development of DHL Express. The visit was very informative and useful to the participants. Throughout the visit, the participants actively asked questions in the Q&A sessions.
