Report

Technical Visit to Hong Kong Disneyland

By Ir Dr. Irene Poon

The Logistics and Transportation Division (LTD) organized a technical visit to Hong Kong Disneyland in the afternoon of 15 October 2019.  The visit was divided into two sessions and was led by two Industrial Engineering Project Managers, Ms Emily Ying and Mr Jerry Yan.  This was indeed a valuable chance for our participants to understand how the theme park created dream-weaving wonders to all visitors.

During the first part of the visit, Emily introduced the job scopes of industrial engineers and explained how they worked for the efficiency of the theme park with examples of projects successfully implemented in the past.

As regards the second part of the visit, participants were divided into two teams and guided by Emily and Jerry for a site walk to fully understand the operation of the selected “Lands” in the theme park.  They went to Main Entrance to see bag check, ticket booth and turnstiles to understand the dynamic among these three operations which might impact guests’ experiences.  Then, they went to Tomorrowland to briefly look at each element in a themed area, i.e., attractions, restaurants, shops, seating and pathways.  Finally, they took Orbitron as an example to illustrate how works had been done to improve the throughput of the attraction.

The LTD would like to express their sincere thanks to the Industrial Engineering Department for their generous hospitality and for making this technical visit a success.
