Programme highlight

The purpose of this study was to measure the individual pedestrian walking and evacuation behaviors of individuals with disabilities through controlled video/RFID (radio frequency identification) tracking experiments of heterogeneous crowds. The first set of experiments involves measuring the walking behavior in various walking facilities, including passageways, right and oblique corners, doorways, bottlenecks, and stairs, while the second set of experiments collects the evacuation behavior in a controlled building environment. This talk will present an overview of conducting experimental research on pedestrian walking and evacuation behaviors involving individuals with and without disabilities, including automated video/RFID tracking methods, data collection, logistical issues, processing methods, and lessons learned from conducting large-scale empirical study.
